 2018 Preview 


       Spain Park completed the 2017 season with a 6-5 record. With their 3-4 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 7A region three, the Jaguars earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Spain Park's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Hewitt-Trussville by a score of 33-21.

       The Jaguars lost as many games as in any season since 2011.

       Since 2010, Spain Park has gone a combined 61-32. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 7A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 16 seasons, Spain Park has managed to compile a record of 118-67. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 7A and 67th in the AHSAA.




       The Jaguars are led by head coach Shawn Raney who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 40-17 over the past five seasons at Spain Park. Under his direction the Jaguars have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Raney.

       Coach Raney's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 40-17 (70.2%).

       The Spain Park Jaguars will play in Class 7A region three during the 2018 season. The Jaguars have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 75-43 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 7A and 13th in the AHSAA.

       Region three will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. The Jaguars should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

      

       The Jaguars open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Hillcrest Tuscaloosa on Friday, August 24 at Jaguar Stadium at Bob Finley Field. Last year the Hillcrest Tuscaloosa Patriots finished with an overall record of 10-4 and in first place in Class 6A region four. The Patriots lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Wetumpka by a score of 44-27.

       Spain Park and Hillcrest Tuscaloosa have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 5-1-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2007 with Spain Park winning by a score of 24-0.

       Spain Park returns 7A All-State  defensive lineman Cedric Tooson. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.
